High Energy Cabaret Bellydance Fusion Choreography
Who
Petite Jamilla
"Simply Put: Petite Jamilla is unclassifiable and immensely talented" MC 04
With an award winning style that escapes definition and talent that is inescapable, this Southern Beauty has been belly dancing her entire life, and charming her way across the world. Petite Jamilla is carrying on her mother's legacy, Jamilla Rasa, by bridging the generation gap between traditional folkloric style and modern belly dance fusion. She's been performing and studying her style of belly dance intensively for over 10 years becoming professional and touring the Southeast US from the age of 15, a seasoned instructor by 17, and by the time she was 19, she had 2 instructional dvds on the market.
Before her 3 years of touring history with Bellydance Superstars, Petite Jamilla found herself traveling to Paris France as the featured artist for Professor Graffeos art exhibition which documents life in Roma refugee encampments throughout Europe. She also danced as a collaborative artist alongside harp legend Cynthia Douglass at the Lyon and Healy Harp Convention in Utah. Zaghareet Magazine recognized Petite Jamilla's talent twice by gracing her as the cover artist and featured story in 2004, and awarding her with the title "Best Kept Secret" in 2006. With an impressive rhythmic understanding, Petite Jamilla draws from her own musicianship when interpreting the complexities of Arabic music.
She can be seen as a dancer in the following Bellydance Superstars dvds: American Bellydancer, Live at Follies Bergere, Solos from Monte Carlo, and 30 Days to Vegas and can be seen as a featured musician in the Bellydance Superstars Tribal Fusions dvd, and playing the bagpipes as a featured musician on the Baghdad Heavymetal album as well.
